Daris Meeks is a partner in the Legislative and Government Affairs Practice. He advises clients on complex issues impacting numerous industries, including aerospace, defense, and financial services. Mr. Meeks is recognized for his knowledge of policy and his thorough understanding of the lawmaking and regulatory processes. He most recently served in the White House as deputy assistant to the president and director of domestic policy for Vice President Mike Pence. In that capacity, Mr. Meeks was the vice president’s top domestic policy advisor and managed the vice president's domestic policy team, including the National Space Council. In Congress, Mr. Meeks served as the principal policy advisor and counsel to Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) during his tenures as chairman of the House Republican Conference and vice chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. Mr. Meeks also served as policy director and counsel to Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) during his tenure as chairman of the House Republican Conference, prior to his election as governor of Indiana. Prior to the House Republican Conference, Mr. Meeks served as counsel to Rep. Hensarling during the congressman’s time as a member of the Congressional Oversight Panel. Mr. Meeks has significant experience with housing finance policy, having been appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as counsel to the chairman of the Federal Housing Finance Board. In addition, he began his government service as committee counsel on the Senate Banking Committee, where he assisted the committee’s ranking member, Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX), on issues ranging from the Fair Credit Reporting Act to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. During his time at the Federal Housing Finance Board, the agency entered into its first two supervisory enforcement agreements—one with the Federal Loan Bank of Seattle and the other with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. In addition to advising the chairman on regulatory matters, Mr. Meeks also served as the agency’s congressional liaison and interacted with relevant White House offices. As a congressional staffer for a member of the House Republican's leadership team, he was actively involved in the legislative process and provided strategic advice to two House Republican Conference chairmen, Rep. Mike Pence and Rep. Jeb Hensarling. Mr. Meeks attended weekly House Republican Conference meetings with members and daily planning sessions with the Speaker of the House, Majority Leader, Majority Whip, and Conference Chairman.
