Marco Antonio Davis is the deputy director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. Since January 2012, he has spearheaded President Obama’s efforts to enhance the academic achievement of Hispanic students in the U.S. Previously, Davis served as the director of public engagement for the Corporation for National and Community Service. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in history and Latin American studies from Yale University in 1992, Davis worked as a leadership development counselor at Prep for Prep in New York City, a program that identifies and mentors outstanding students of color from modest backgrounds, preparing them for and assisting them throughout their studies in private high schools and prestigious universities. In 1994, Davis accepted a position at the National Council of La Raza, where he later became the director of leadership development. During his time at NCLR, he established the Center for Emerging Latino Leadership, developed the Líderes de Hoy college scholarship essay contest, and created the annual Líderes Summit conference.
