Mayor Pro-Tem Ed Gonzalez was first elected to serve on Houston City Council in 2009. A life-long resident of the city of Houston, he is dedicated to making his hometown the leading global city of the 21st century.
Council Member Gonzalez has been a champion for education and regularly speaks at area schools. He passionately advocates for literacy by sharing his personal story; his father did not have the ability to read and write as an adult, but made sure that his son had every opportunity to learn and to achieve through education. Today, Council Member Gonzalez holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston Downtown and a Master’s degree from the University of St. Thomas.
