Tom Fetzer was elected Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party on June 13, 2009. A graduate of Wake Forest, Fetzer began his political career in the administration of Gov. Jim Martin, and also worked for Sen. John East. In 1993, he made North Carolina political history as the first Republican elected Mayor of Raleigh. Tom was reelected twice before leaving office in 1999. After his tenure as Mayor, Fetzer accepted a teaching fellowship at Harvard University’s School of Government and later went on to hold an executive position with the United States Tennis Association before returning to Raleigh. He spent many successful years as a political consultant before his election as Chairman of the NCGOP. Tom was married in October of 2009.
