Born on October 7, 1888, in Adair, Iowa, Henry A. Wallace went on to work in the hybrid-corn business before becoming agriculture secretary under President Franklin D. Roosevelt's first two terms. He served as vice president during Roosevelt's third term, then ran for the presidency on the Progressive Party ticket in 1948. An author and editor as well, Wallace died on November 18, 1965, in Danbury, Connecticut. In 1896, the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa when Wallaces’ Farmer began publishing weekly. Henry attended Elmwood School and West High School Henry A. graduated from West High in 1906 and attended Iowa State College.fter graduation in 1910, he went to work for the paper. In 1914, he married Ilo Browne of Indianola.
