Michael A. Farber, an Executive Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton, leads the Performance Advantage initiative within the firm’s Strategic Innovation Group. Previously, he led Booz Allen’s Strategic Technology and Innovation group focused on commercial markets, providing in-depth analysis and advice to corporate executives across the financial services, health, and energy and utilities markets who seek to maximize the business return on their investments in information technology. Mr. Farber specializes in identifying and leveraging advanced and emerging technologies, including cloud, social, and network collaboration, and mobile computing and communications to drive enterprise innovation, control technology-related capital and operating expenses, gain market share, and increase shareholder value. His core information technology expertise includes: Strategy, architecture, and design Governance Demand and service management Cost containment and control Acquisition management Program and project management Workforce management and transformation Cyber security and trust In an earlier role at Booz Allen, Mr. Farber formulated and implemented IT strategies and solutions to enable organizational and operational transformation aimed at gaining tighter control over IT costs and resource management; streamlining operations; improving business and performance; establishing platforms for information exchange and analytics; and driving innovation to achieve competitive advantage and gains. He worked with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop the federal government’s definition and guidance for cloud computing. He helped the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) create and implement IT governance (including portfolio management, capital planning and investment control), as well as the Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA). The FEA has been adopted and leveraged by a broad range of state, local, and international governments and commercial entities. For his Enterprise Architecture work and impact across the federal government, Mr. Farber received the Federal 100 Award, and he is a frequent keynote speaker on IT topics. Prior to joining the firm in 1997, Mr. Farber was a Technical Director/Senior Program Manager at Roy F. Weston, Inc. Mr. Farber earned a B.A. degree in environmental design and planning from the School of Architecture and Planning, State University of New York at Buffalo. He holds an M.P.A. degree in public policy and administration from Columbia University.
