Edward "Joe" Shoen, longtime chairman and president of do-it-yourself moving company U-Haul, joins the billionaires list for the first time in 2015. He's the second-largest individual shareholder in the company, publicly traded under the corporate name Amerco. His younger brother Mark Shoen is the company's largest shareholder and a billionaire several times over. U-Haul was founded their parents Leonard and Anna Mary Shoen in 1945. But Joe and Mark, along with brother James, orchestrated a boardroom coup and took over the company in the late 1980s, ushering in more than two decades of family infighting and lawsuits. Their father Leonard committed suicide in 1999. The family reached an out-of-court settlement to one of its disputes in 2012. Joe's sons Sam and Stuart both have high level positions within U-Haul.
