Tides Center’s roots lie in Tides Foundation, which was founded by Drummond Pike in 1976. In 1977, Tides Foundation began working with promising progressive initiatives, an arrangement that was formalized into the Projects Program in 1979. In 1996, this program became Tides Center, an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since 1996, Tides Center has been fiscal sponsor to 677 projects with combined revenues of $522.4 million, and has worked with well over 800 projects since the first days as the Projects Program. Tides Center currently manages almost 200 projects. Along with Tides Foundation, Tides Shared Spaces, and other related organizations, Tides Center is a Tides organization. Bringing together people, ideas, and resources, Tides actively promotes change toward a healthy and just society, one which is founded on principles of social justice, broadly shared economic opportunity, a robust democratic process and a sustainable environment. Tides Network strengthens the progressive movement through leading-edge thinking and technology, and efficient infrastructural services.
