STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTING One day, some villagers noticed a baby floating down the river. Good people got together and saved the baby. The next day there were two babies, and each day after that brought more drowning babies. More and more villagers got involved, and saving drowning babies soon took everyone’s time and energy. Soon they decided to see where the babies were coming from. Travelling upstream, the villagers found a bridge was broken, causing the babies to fall into the river. Fixing the bridge prevented the problem. Addressing the Sources and the Symptoms Many organizations and programs provide this kind of preventative benefit every day. About Upstream Solutions Upstream Solutions was founded in 2013 by Liz Dupont-Diehl, who has extensive experience in Connecticut’s nonprofit, advocacy, and community sectors. Liz worked as a journalist for seven years and co-founded the Bridgeport ReEntry Collaborative, the first such group in the state, co-chairing it for five years. She has worked with anti-poverty and human services agencies as well as in workforce development, specializing in youth. She was an organizer of two statewide conferences, in 2012 and 2014, on innovations in human services funding and Pay for Success. She has studied mindfulness for nearly 20 years, is a native of Connecticut, and lives in Windsor.
