In July 2018, several high ranking members of the group were charged with multiple offenses relating to the organization's practices against critics, dissidents, lower-ranking members, minors and women. Those charged include leader Keith Raniere (also known as “Vanguard”), co-founder Nancy Salzman, Salzman's daughter Kathy Salzman, benefactor Clare Bronfman, celebrity follower Allison Mack, bookkeeper Kathy Russell. All mentioned except Keith Raniere pleaded guilty. Raniere took the US case against him to trial and was found guilty on all charges.
