Seattle Flu Study

There is a lot happening at the Seattle Flu Study, and we want to be sure to answer any questions you might have about the work we are doing! The Seattle Flu Study is a unique collaborative effort by the Brotman Baty Institute, UW Medicine, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Seattle Children’s, to find out how we can better detect, monitor, and control flu outbreaks. Today, 10% of the population gets the flu each year, and more than 30 million people get sick. Outbreaks can sweep across Seattle within days. To develop better ways to fight the flu, we’re asking for volunteers from across the city—those who are healthy as well as those who might be sick—to help us map how the flu spreads. By creating a first-of-its-kind citywide network, we can detect outbreaks early and potentially develop new ways to treat the flu. With your help, we can make Seattle a model for how the flu is monitored and how cities can respond more quickly to keep individuals and our entire community healthier and safer.
