Office of Workforce Development Workforce development helps bridge the gap between job seekers and employers. Key areas The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) drives and supports the public-private partnerships critical to achieving the goals outlined in the citywide workforce development strategy, Fueling Philadelphia’s Talent Engine. To achieve this mission, OWD addresses the talent needs of employers and prepares residents for family-sustaining jobs, by: Providing Philadelphians with the skills employers need for a world-class workforce. Addressing barriers that prevent Philadelphians from accessing meaningful career opportunities. Building a workforce system that is more coordinated, innovative, and effective. Reporting jointly to Department of Commerce and Mayor’s Office of Labor, we serve at the intersection of economic and workforce development to respond to the ever-changing challenges and opportunities facing Philadelphia’s job seekers and employers. OWD programs and initiatives include: Employer Engagement – Employer of Choice, Fair Chance Hiring Initiative and Workforce Professional Alliance Education and Training – Adult Education, City as Model Employer, Digital Literacy and PowerCorpsPHL Policy and Strategy – Career Connected Learning, Future of Work
