About The purpose of this blog is to share the ideas, practices and tools emerging from Learning Frontiers, a collaborative initiative created to transform teaching and learning so that every student succeeds in an education worth having. The Australian-based initiative brings together clusters of schools and other interested parties – ‘design hubs’ – to explore professional practices that increase student engagement in learning. Design hubs explore teaching, learning and assessment practices that are built upon four design principles for engaging learning: connected, co-created, personal and integrated. dpThere are currently five design hubs testing powerful practices that increase engagement and improve achievement and life outcomes. These hubs are located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney. Over 50 schools and a range of other organisations, such as universities, not-profit and corporate partners, are participating in the initiative. Hubs use user-centred design approaches like prototyping to design deep, relevant and pervasive learning for students. They collaborate to generate a robust evidence base about impact within and beyond the hub, and provide opportunities for parents and community to participate in the development of practice. Learning Frontiers was originally initiated by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) and the UK’s Innovation Unit.
