Irene Scully Foundation

Overview of the Foundation Mission: The Irene S. Scully Family Foundation invests in organizations that build equity and opportunity in Oakland and West Contra Costa County school communities. Vision: All Oakland and West Contra Costa County students receive a high quality education. School communities have the capacity to fully meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners. The Irene S. Scully Family Foundation grants approximately $1.5 million each year to schools, school districts, and nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of K-12 public education in both Oakland and West Contra Costa County. As of 2018, all grants will align with our five priority areas: Quality Public Schools; Engaged School Communities; Healthy School Systems; Effective Teaching and Leadership; and Summer Learning. In partnership with our grantees, our goal is to improve academic and social outcomes for students who are disproportionately impacted by systemic racial, social, and socio-economic inequities. The Foundation seeks to invest in high-leverage, community-informed strategies that create meaningful learning opportunities for students and create sustainable system-level improvements. In addition to the Foundation’s K-12 grantmaking, the Foundation offers four-year college scholarships to two high-achieving, low-income Richmond students from either John F. Kennedy High School or Richmond High School each year. The scholarship is offered in partnership with The Ed Fund (West Contra Costa Public Education Fund).
