Southwire produces aluminum and copper rods, wires and cables for the transmission and distribution of electricity. The company dates back to 1937, when Roy Richards, Sr. started to erect power lines for the Rural Electrification Administration. In 1950, Richards founded Southwire as a supplier of wire to the original company. Southwire now operates 21 facilities in the U.S. and one in Mexico.
