John F. Cogan joined our Board of Directors in July 2005. Dr. Cogan is currently the Leonard and Shirley Ely Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and a Professor in the Public Policy Program at Stanford University, where he has had a continuing appointment since 1980. Dr. Cogan's current research is focused on U.S. budget and fiscal policy, social security and health care. Dr. Cogan has held a number of positions in the U.S. government, including Assistant Secretary for Policy in the U.S. Department of Labor and Associate Director and Deputy Director in the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB). While at the OMB, Dr. Cogan's responsibilities included the development and review of all health, housing, education and employment training programs and policies. Dr. Cogan is a director of Monaco Coach Corporation and Venture Lending and Leasing Inc. and a trustee of the Charles Schwab Family of Funds. John F. His most recent book, Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise: Five Steps to a Better Health Care System (Hoover Institution Press, 2011), coauthored with Glenn Hubbard and Daniel Kessler, recommends federal policy changes to improve US health-care markets.
