Joshua R. Floum serves as the general counsel and corporate secretary of Visa Inc. He has primary responsibility for advising Visa Inc.’s management and board of directors on legal matters. This includes overseeing litigation and competitive legal issues, corporate governance issues, global government relations and regulatory matters. Floum serves on Visa Inc.’s operating committee and reports to Visa Inc.’s chief executive officer. Previously, Floum was executive vice president, general counsel and secretary for Visa USA, responsible for advising Visa USA management and the board of directors on legal matters. Floum was appointed to this position in January 2004 and served as a member of the Visa USA executive management committee. Before joining Visa USA, Floum served as chairman of the California litigation practice for the law firm of Holme, Roberts & Owen, where he specialized in antitrust and competition law, intellectual property, bankcard and banking practices, and telecommunications law. Prior to this, Floum was a senior partner in the law firms of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe and Legal Strategies Group, and served in the Federal District Court as judicial law clerk to the Honorable A. Wallace Tashima. Floum received his B.A. in international economics and political science from the University of California, Berkeley and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He is a longstanding member of the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights and a senior legal adviser to Earth Island Institute, a nonprofit conservation organization. Floum has published extensively in the areas of intellectual property, international law and wildlife conservation. He is a member of the bars of the United States and California Supreme Courts, as well as the bars of numerous federal trial and appellate courts throughout the country.
