Peter Miller Dawkins

Raised in a Detroit suburb, the son of a dentist, he recovered from a childhood bout with polio to go on to West Point, where he became captain of the football team and the Heisman Trophy winner in 1958, his senior year. He graduated 10th in a class of 499. Then came the Army, including tours in Vietnam and Korea and, along the way, a Ph.D. in public policy at Princeton University. He became a brigadier general at 43 but left the military two years later and headed for Wall Street, where he became an overnight multimillionaire. He met his wife, Judi, while still at West Point and they have raised two children. Mr. Dawkins retired from the Army in 1983 and went into investment banking, joining the public finance department of Lehman Brothers. When Mr. Glucksman sold Lehman to Shearson-American Express, Mr. Dawkins, who had then been with the firm for only eight months, cashed in his stock, which, along with other compensations from the company, instantly made him a multimillionaire. Was employed at Flintlock Capital. Prior to this, Dr. Dawkins was the Founder and Principal at ShiningStar Capital LLC. From 1991 to 1996, he was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Primerica Financial Services. He was the Head of the U.S. Consulting Practice at Bain & Company. Dr. Dawkins was an Executive Vice President and Vice Chairman at Travelers Insurance. He began his career in the private sector as the Head of the Public Financing Banking division at Lehman Brothers. Dr. Dawkins led a three-year initiative focused on providing creative financing to overhaul a significant portion of the physical infrastructure throughout the country. Dr. Dawkins serves as a Member of Advisory Board at Wilmington Trust FSB. He has been a Director of Iridium Communications Inc. since November 2009. Dr. Dawkins was the Vice Chairman of Global Wealth Management of Citigroup and Vice Chairman of the Citigroup Private Bank.
