David Cox

David Cox was elected in October 2015 to his first term on the Raleigh City Council. He represents the citizens of District B, which covers the northeast section of Raleigh. As Council Member, David serves as Council’s liaison to three city boards: the Environmental Advisory Board, the Human Relations Commission, and the Stormwater Management Advisory Commission. Council Member Cox is the vice-chair of the City's Safe, Healthy, and Vibrant Community Committee and is a member of the Growth and Natural Resources Committee. David is a researcher in industrial automation with an MS and Ph.D. in Computer Science and a BS in Biochemistry. He has worked over the years on a variety of software and systems including a robotic blood analyzer. He and his wife, Helen, have lived in Raleigh since 2001 having moved to the area from Rochester, NY. Originally, David grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and moved to Rochester shortly after graduation from college in 1980. David and Helen volunteer at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church to provide meals for the disabled. They have also volunteered together with the National Kidney Foundation and Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO) - a support group for those in need of organ transplants. David has served as Chairman of the Public Policy Committee of the National Kidney Foundation of Upstate New York as well as Vice-President and President of the Upstate New York chapter of TRIO. David enjoys walking, bicycling, and hiking. His hobbies include reading, especially about American history and genealogy.
