Dr. Roye is the Assistant Dean of Research and a Professor of Nursing at Hunter College in New York City, and continues to serving as a pediatric nurse practitioner. She also co-founded a non-profit, Promoting Health in Haiti, to address women’s/reproductive health issues overseas. The mother of six, the youngest adopted from a Romanian orphanage, and the grandmother of 12, Dr. Roye began her career as a public school teacher. In the late 1980s she began her career as a nurse practitioner working with young women in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood. The National Institutes of Health awarded Dr. Roye a prestigious research grant to study HIV/AIDS prevention. A follow up to this study was made possible by a grant from the William T. Grant Foundation. Dr. Roye also is the author of many publications on a range of topics in adolescent reproductive health, including Adolescent Sexual Development and Sexuality: Assessment and Interventions, a popular book for professionals who work with teenagers around issues of sexuality.
