Timothy R Murphy

Tim serves as chief executive officer of Beacon Health Strategies, a NCQA and URAC accredited behavioral health managed care company. Beacon and its subsidiaries specialize in the management of mental health and substance use services for individuals dealing behavioral health challenges with a particular focus on vulnerable populations with high medical costs caused by significant physical, behavioral and social maladies. The company employs licensed clinicians to provide care coordination and conduct utilization review services on behalf of commercial health insurers, Medicaid managed care plans, Medicare advantage plans and county governments for approximately 7.6 million covered individuals who access mental health and substance use services through Beacon’s contracted network of behavioral health providers. Prior to joining Beacon, Tim served as the Secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services in Massachusetts for Governor Mitt Romney. In this capacity, he oversaw a $12.0 billion budget and approximately 22,000 employees that delivered programs and services through 15 state agencies to over one million Massachusetts residents. Prior becoming Secretary, Tim was as a principal advisor to Governor Romney and served as his Director of Policy. Tim helped craft and guide the Governor’s agenda on tax, fiscal and debt policies, economic development strategies, transportation planning and health care. Preceding his service in the Romney Administration, Tim was a vice president in the investment banking division of JP Morgan. In this capacity, he advised and raised capital for private equity firms, corporations and non-for-profit institutions, including healthcare providers and payers. Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts from Merrimack College, where he serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees, and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University.
