Fred Hutchison is an advocate, writer, and entrepreneur. A government and public relations generalist for more than three decades, he is a counselor to both private and public sector leaders, and has represented their interests as a communicator, lobbyist, and foreign agent. His subject matter expertise includes clean-tech, energy, natural resources, and public lands. Fred is a senior consultant (non-lobbyist) to Cornerstone Government Affairs and president of Franklin-Hamilton, Inc., specializing in communications and marketing. He was previously senior vice president at Fleishman-Hillard and president of F. H. Hutchison & Co. After earning a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he served as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Frank Church (D-Idaho) for six years. At Cornerstone, he works on the team serving the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities where he helps the APLU Budget and Advocacy Committee increase federal funding for agricultural research, education, and extension programs. He also serves on the clean-tech team, representing RTI International. Previously, he planned and executed an integrated public affairs and government relations program for the government of Iceland to increase awareness about that nation’s success in managing its fisheries and ocean resources in a sustainable manner. Other assignments included a five-year effort for a major forest products company pursuing a progressive government and public relations program and a multi-year written communications campaign to all members of the House and Senate for a coalition of 20 trade associations representing more than 7,500 wood products companies. In addition, Fred has managed a government affairs coalition of companies involved in the International Space Station and arranged media coverage for a series of six national cyber-security summit conferences sponsored by The Institute of Internal Auditors. Fred is also a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the professional society of independent book, magazine, and online writers.
