The original Genesee and Wyoming Railroad, was founded in 1899. Following the Staggers Act deregulation of the U.S. rail industry in 1980, growth by acquisition, through an initial public offering in 1996 and expansion into the Australian and Canadian rail markets in 1997. The Company’s acquisitions continued in those three markets and recently expanded to the UK/Europe.
