John B Morse Jr

John (Jay) Morse, Jr. is vice president, finance and chief financial officer of The Washington Post Company, where he has corporate responsibility for investor relations, treasury, and investment functions as well as tax, audit, and accounting areas. Morse joined The Post Company in July 1989 as vice president and controller and was elected to his current position in November 1989. He also serves as president of Washington Post Telecommunications, Inc. and Washington Post Productions, Inc. Prior to joining The Washington Post Company, Morse was a partner at Price Waterhouse, an international accounting firm, where he worked with publishing/media companies and multilateral lending institutions for more than 17 years. In the course of his work there, he traveled extensively for clients, both in the U.S. and overseas, and spent one year on assignment in the London office. Morse also spent two years in the U.S. Army. Morse is a director and chairman of the audit committee of Host Marriott Corporation and is a former director and chairman of the audit committee of Crestline Capital Corporation. He also serves on the boards of numerous civic and charitable organizations in the Washington, DC area and was recognized as CFO of the Year in 2002 for his volunteer work. A CPA, Morse is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, he is a member of the Financial Executives Institute, where for the past ten years he has served on the Committee on Corporate Reporting and its SEC and AIMR sub-committees. He is the past chairman of the US Council for Financial Executives of the Conference Board. Morse holds degrees from the University of Virginia (BA, history) and the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania (MBA, industrial relations and accounting).
