Notes ABOUT US The Association of Vermont Independent Colleges (AVIC) is the only statewide organization that represents exclusively the interests of private higher education in Vermont. AVIC provides public policy leadership, fosters cooperative efforts among institutions, and serves as the liaison between its members and the state and federal government. Established in 1981, the association seeks to strengthen the quality of higher education in Vermont, increase accessibility to the broadest range of students, and foster cooperative efforts among its member institutions and all segments of higher education. AVIC is dedicated to expanding the capacity of Vermont’s independent educational network and attracting students who will contribute to the state’s future workforce as well as the economic, civic, and cultural life of Vermont. As a voice of independent higher education in Vermont, AVIC works to inform the public about the vital importance of independent colleges and universities to the future of Vermont.
