Notes MELANIE TAVARES Director, Nonprofit Support Program - The Hartford Foundation An equity advocate, Melanie honed her expertise in program design, funding and strategic management at a number of state and national organizations including the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Corporation for National and Community Service, MassHousing, YouthBuild, the Massachusetts Service Alliance, and Girl Scouts of the USA. Melanie holds a Degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University, a Bachelor's degree in Human Services and Counseling Psychology from Lesley University, Master's Degree in Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University, and an Ed.L.D at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education. As an Ed.L.D Candidate, Melanie focused her scholarship on system-level leadership, public-private and non-profit partnerships, and organizational sustainability. A third-generation Cape Verdean-American Kriola, Melanie was raised in the tradition and spirit of Morabeza or “hospitality.” In her free time, you will find her cooking, celebrating and building community with family and friends. Melanie intends to continue championing programs, policies, and partnerships that amplify youth voice and mobilize critical resources in service to communities in her new role as Director the Hartford Foundation's Nonprofit Support Program.
