Lance Fors is CEO of LFI Properties, a firm he started during his graduate school years when he assembled a large real estate
portfolio that he continues to own and manage.
Previously, he was the founder and CEO of Third Wave Technologies, a leading biotechnology company focused on the
early detection and treatment of cervical, colorectal, liver and other cancers. Prior to its IPO in February 2001, Third Wave
Technologies successfully raised $72 million in venture capital financing. In July 2008, the company was acquired by
Hologic, Inc., a U.S. publicly traded company, for $580 million.
Since selling Third Wave, Lance has focused on venture philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, helping empower social
entrepreneurs by acting as a thought partner and mentor. He works with several dozen organizations a year at inflection
points in their development with a focus on funding, talent and program models and how to transform their impact.
He has been the long-term board chair of New Teacher Center, Reading Partners and Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund
(SV2), helping them achieve up to 75 percent compound annual growth and become leaders in their fields. Lance is the chair
of Social Venture Partners International, a board member of Growth Philanthropy Network and Strive Network, and lectures
on the potential of nonprofit boards to provide transformational leadership. Lance also acquires, modifies and then rents out
select properties long-term to enable individuals with special physical or mental needs to live independently.
Lance is the lead director and co-owner of Lance Construction Supplies, an inventor on dozens of patents, a former
court-appointed special advocate for four foster youth and an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award recipient.
He received his B.A. from UC-Berkeley and his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology, both in molecular
biology.
