The organization was founded by Ms. Daley and her friend Lois Weisberg, the former commissioner of cultural affairs for the city. Ms. Conroy is a senior adviser at Chicago Metropolis 2020, a civic think tank, and an adviser to Mayor Rahm Emanuel. She has been named to the board of directors. Mr. Daley will join the group's advisory board. He is a partner with his father, former Mayor Richard M. Daley, in a new investment company called Tur Partners LLC. "My mom would be so happy," said Ms. Conroy, calling Ms. Hobson a "dear friend" who has been a longtime supporter of After School Matters. "I've worked with her on different projects in the city and am thrilled to have her and her leadership skills and vision and commitment to young people," she said, noting that Ms. Hobson and the group's new director are sure to bring dynamic change to the charity that benefits young people. Ms. Conroy was referring to the recent appointment of Mary Ellen Caron, a former mayoral aide to Mr. Daley, as CEO of the organization Beyond her work at Ariel, Ms. Hobson serves as chairman of the board of trustees of Ariel Investment Trust. She also is a director of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., Est�Lauder Cos., Groupon Inc. and Starbucks Corp. Many know her for her contributions as a financial expert on ABC's "Good Morning America." “I am proud and honored to step into the role of chair of the After School Matters board," Ms. Hobson said in a release. "I recognize that, as the first and only person after Maggie Daley to serve in this position, I have big shoes to fill. But, I share Mrs. Daley's vision of helping young people and will work to preserve and protect her legacy."
