Andre B. Lacy, whose name is on Butler University's business school and whose philanthropic footprint can be found throughout Indianapolis, was killed Thursday November 30 2017 in a motorcycle crash in Africa. In 2016, Lacy and his wife, Julia, donated $25 million to Butler, which named its business school in his honor. Lacy's death comes less than a year after Julia's on December 31 2016. The couple, who were married 53 years, have three sons. Lacy's grandfather, Howard Lacy, started his family business more than 100 years ago with the founding of U.S. Corrugated Fiber Box Co., which made cardboard boxes. By the 1980s, the family expanded and renamed their business Lacy Diversified Industries, or LDI. Mr. Andre B. Lacy is Lead Independent Director of Patterson Companies Inc. He has served as Chairman of the Board of LDI Ltd., LLC since 1992. Mr. Lacy served as LDI Ltd., LLC's Chief Executive Officer from 1986 through 2006. LDI Ltd., LLC is an industrial and investment limited liability company. Mr. Lacy is Director Emeritus of FinishMaster, Inc. Mr. Lacy serves as a director of Herff Jones, Inc., Hulman & Company and Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporationrationration. Mr. Lacy was one of the directors since 1989 and has served as the Lead Director since 2004. After graduating from Denison University in 1961 with a bachelor of arts in economics, Lacy began his career as an analyst at U.S. Corrugated-Fibre Box Company, the company from which LDI, Ltd. evolved.
