Robert B. Knutson is a founder and former Chairman & CEO of Education Management Corporation (EDMC), one of the largest private education systems in the United States and a publicly owned company. EDMC’s education institutions offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines to 158,000 students at 101 campuses throughout North America and online. Mr. Knutson is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A. with honors in Economics, 1956). He became President of EDMC in 1971, was Chairman & CEO from 1986 to 2003, and Executive Chairman until 2006. He formerly was a Vice President with J. P. Morgan in New York, and a Vice President with Drexel Harriman Ripley, New York. He served as a fighter pilot with the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1962. Mr. Knutson is a member of the board of directors of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is a past member of the board of directors of the International Biomedical Research Alliance, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and WQED Multimedia. He is a past Chairman of the Pittsburgh Chapter, Young Presidents Organization. Mr. Knutson and his spouse Miryam reside in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Boca Grande, Florida.
