John N. Doherty is senior vice president - Investor Relations for Verizon, a position he has held since September 2010. He is the corporation's primary liaison with the investment community and Verizon's shareholders. Prior to his current role, Doherty held the position of chief financial officer for Verizon Services Operations from March 2009 to August 2010 and was responsible for finance operations and customer financial services as well as overall financial support for Verizon Services. Prior to his current assignment, Doherty was vice president of Strategy and Finance for Verizon Business. Doherty was responsible for leading Verizon Business' overall strategy, business development, financial planning, and performance measurement activity. Prior to that, Doherty was a vice president in the U.S. Telecom Finance organization from February 2005 to January 2006. He was responsible for all financial matters for the Enterprise Solutions Group. Previously, Doherty was vice president and chief financial officer for Verizon International, a position he held from September 2003. He was responsible for Verizon International's finance, strategy and business development activities. During this period, Doherty led the rationalization of existing, non-strategic assets in Europe, Asia and the Americas. He served on the boards of CANTV, Verizon Dominicana, and the Puerto Rico Telephone Company. Prior to that, Doherty worked in Thailand as senior executive vice president and chief financial officer of TelecomAsia ("TA"), where he was responsible for finance, strategy, corporate development, marketing and sales, and customer care. Doherty was also on the board of TA. Doherty led the transformation of TA into a market-driven company through a redesign of the organizational structure and supporting business activities. He also directed the financial restructuring of the company, which was completed in March 2000. Prior to joining TA in 1998, Doherty was executive director of Bell Atlantic International, responsible for developing the company's strategic alliances and joint ventures in Europe and the Americas. His previous experience includes his role in the U.K. with NYNEX CableComms, where he was responsible for strategy, corporate development, marketing and programming. He was instrumental in the growth of NYNEX CableComms from 1994 through 1997, capped off by the formation of Cable & Wireless Communications in 1997. Prior to his assignment in the U.K., Doherty held various positions in strategy, corporate development and finance with NYNEX in the U.S. Doherty earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Stony Brook University, Long Island, and a master of business administration degree in finance from The City University of New York/Baruch College. He has also participated in the Wharton Executive Education Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
