Ms. Stone was appointed Director of the New York State Division of the Budget by Governor George E. Pataki on June 26, 2000 and served in that position until October, 2004. As Budget Director, Ms. Stone has played a key role in Governor Pataki's successful effort to restore fiscal responsibility to State government, reduce the tax burden on New Yorkers and secure the State's strongest credit rating in 24 years. Currently, Ms. Stone serves as Chair of the recently established New York State Racing Association Oversight Board. Ms. Stone has received national recognition for her outstanding achievements as a budget professional. In March 2003, Ms. Stone received the Donald L. Scantlebury Memorial Award from the Joint Financial Management Improvement Program (JFMIP) for her excellence in financial management. In May 2001, Ms. Stone was presented with the Distinguished Public Service Award for Outstanding contributions to Public Service by the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University at Albany. In 1996, she was honored with the John E. Burton Service Award. A native of Garden City, Ms. Stone graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs.
