A Representative from New York; born in Auburn, Cayuga County, N.Y., May 8, 1951; R.N., St. Josephs Hospital School of Nursing, Syracuse, N.Y., 1972; B.S., Le Moyne College, Syracuse, N.Y., 1977; J.D., Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., 1994; nurse; member of the Syracuse Common Council, 1994-1995; assistant New York state attorney general, 1997-2010; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Twelfth Congress (January 3, 2011-present). Ms. Buerkle currently serves as Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Since 2017, she has also served as Acting Chair. From 1997 to 2009, Ms. Buerkle was an Assistant Attorney General for the state of New York. Earlier in her career, she practiced law in a private firm. Before her legal career, Ms. Buerkle worked as a registered nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
