On March 24, 2010, State Supreme Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia administered the oath of office to Thomas B. Considine. Governor Chris Christie named Considine Acting Commissioner on January 15; the Senate Judiciary approved the appointment on March 15, followed by a full Senate confirmation on March 22. Prior to his appointment, he worked at MetLife, Inc., a global financial services company, for nearly 17 years beginning in 1993 where he served most recently as Vice President & Government Relation Counsel, managing a staff of attorneys, public policy analysts and other professionals. In addition, he served on a Legal Affairs Diversity Subcommittee at MetLife. Recognized as an industry leader in his field, Considine served on the Board of Directors of the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations and various other financial services industry-related posts, and other business organizations. Considine served as a founding appointee to the NJ Department of Banking & Insurance Financial Services Advisory Board. Prior to joining MetLife, Considine served as a litigation associate at Connell, Foley and Geiser, a major New Jersey law firm. He was involved in all facets of a diverse practice including general business law, labor/employment law and various types of insurance litigation. Considine received his J.D. cum laude from the Seton Hall University School of Law and his B.S. magna cum laude from the W. Paul Stillman School of Business Administration at Seton Hall University. During his college years, Considine served as an intern on the Washington staff of Representative Frank Guarini. He also served on the Seton Hall University Alumni Board of Directors.
