P. Steven Ainsley became publisher of The Boston Globe in September 2006. Previously, he has served as president and chief operating officer of the Regional Newspaper Group since January 2003. He was senior vice president of the Regional Newspaper Group since July 1999. Mr. Ainsley had been a publisher at various New York Times Company owned newspapers since August 1982. He was named publisher of The Santa Barbara News-Press, in Santa Barbara, Calif., in November 1993, after having served as publisher of The TimesDaily, in Florence, Ala., since January 1987; The Sebring News and The Avon Park Sun, in Sebring and Avon Park, Fla., (now named the News-Sun) from March 1986 to January 1987; and The York County Coast Star in Kennebunk, Me., since August 1982. Prior to joining the Times Company, Mr. Ainsley was general sales manager of WBNB-TV in St. Thomas, the United States Virgin Islands, from 1981 to 1982. Before that, he was publisher of The Princeton Times in Princeton, W.Va. since 1980. He began his newspaper career with Worrell Enterprises Inc., in 1978 as an advertising salesperson at The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va. Mr. Ainsley has served as a director of the New England Press Association and the Alabama Press Association. He has also served as a director and officer of numerous local civic and charitable organizations in the communities in which he has lived. Mr. Ainsley received a B.A. degree from New York University in 1976. He graduated from the Emory University Advanced Management Program in 1986.
