Michael J. Gasser was appointed to the board by Governor Kasich in September 2012. Michael J. Gasser is executive chairman of the board of Greif, Inc., (NYSE: GEF, GEF.B). Mr. Gasser joined Greif in August 1979 as internal auditor at the company’s headquarters in Delaware, Ohio. Prior to that, he was manager of audit with the public accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand. Mr. Gasser progressed steadily in his career with Greif, becoming controller in 1981, a member of the finance committee in 1987, vice president of finance in 1988, a member of the board of directors in 1991, vice chairman and chief operating officer in 1994, and later chairman and chief executive officer in 1994. Under Mr. Gasser’s leadership as chief executive officer, the company expanded its industrial shipping containers business to be the U.S. market leader and entered the world market through the acquisition of Van Leer Industrial in 2001 (doubling the company’s size), became a major U.S. regional supplier in the corrugated products business, and significantly increased revenues from its land management business. The company also became a world leader in the flexible packaging business and branched into reconditioning steel, plastic and fibre drums and intermediate bulk containers. Mr. Gasser serves on the board of directors for Bob Evans Farms, Battelle and The James Cancer Hospital Foundation. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and obtained his certified public accountant certificate in 1976. He has been a member of the board of trustees for ONU, and served on the university’s investment and financial affairs committees. Residents of Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Gasser and his wife have three adult children.
