Suzanne Rich Folsom is the SVP, General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at ACADEMI. Ms. Folsom is an expert in regulatory and compliance risk management and corporate governance. She has proven executive leadership skills at the world's largest and most diverse corporations and international organizations such as AIG, the World Bank Group, the United Nations and leading international law firms O'Melveny & Myers LLP and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP. Ms. Folsom has lived around the world while working as a lawyer, policy advisor and governance specialist. Ms. Folsom was recruited by AIG to lead the regulatory and compliance team, and to remedy the company's material weaknesses. During her tenure, Ms. Folsom installed a best in class regulatory and compliance framework and program for the company and its more than 3,000 subsidiaries in 130 countries. Ms. Folsom and her team were widely praised by international regulators from around the globe for their extraordinary efforts during a time of heightened concern over the global financial crisis. Prior to her work at AIG, Ms. Folsom distinguished herself as a tireless advocate for good governance and a courageous champion of global anti-corruption initiatives at the World Bank Group. From 2003 to 2008, she served as the Counselor to the President of the World Bank Group. During her tenure, she also assumed the role of Director of U.S. Affairs, and later was selected as the Bank's Director of the Department of Institutional Integrity. Ms. Folsom's extensive and diverse professional experience includes eight years with O'Melveny & Myers LLP, where she served as Special Counsel and advised a host of high-profile international and domestic clients. Previously, Ms. Folsom served as the Chief of Staff to Her Majesty Queen Noor of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. In addition, she served as First Family Liaison to the U.S. Presidential Inaugural Committee and Special Assistant to Mrs. Barbara Bush for the 1988 Presidential Campaign. Ms. Folsom’s political career also includes serving as Executive Director of a women's political action committee. Ms. Folsom received her political science degree from Duke University and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she focused on international law, ethics and corporate governance. Ms. Folsom has lectured on issues of ethics, compliance and governance at professional forums including the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, Harvard Law School, the World Bank, and the Inter-American Bank as well as private institutions and associations. She is published in the area of governance and is a frequent commentator in the press and media on issues pertaining to corporate ethics and governance. She has worked in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
