A tiff is brewing between companies run by Azcarraga, the chief executive of powerhouse Mexican TV broadcaster Televisa, and Carlos Slim, Mexico's richest man. Slim-controlled phone companies Telmex and Telcel as well as retailers belonging to Grupo Carso pulled their advertising from Televisa in late February after Televisa increased ad rates by 20%. Televisa said the increase came because the Slim companies did not participate in "upfront" ad buying for the year. Analysts say a truce may still be reached. Meanwhile, Azcarraga is nudging into Slim's hold on telephony in Mexico by offering bundled Internet, phone and cable TV through Televisa's cable TV unit. Azcarraga Jean remains chairman of Televisa, Mexico’s largest television broadcasting company, though in 2018 he stepped away from the CEO role following two decades at the reins. The 55-year-old owns a number of homes around the world.
