Sylvia Kaplan is a lifelong resident Minnesota where as a community organizer and political activist, she has worked on issues of social justice from an early age. She and her husband, Sam, devote much of their time to electoral politics and have launched many political candidates from their home. Sylvia is a restaurateur in Minneapolis, and has had careers in journalism and family therapy. She has two masters degrees from the University of Minnesota, where she has taught American and Women's Studies. She and Sam have six children and 13 grandchildren, and have recently returned from the Kingdom of Morocco where Sam served as United States Ambassador and Sylvia provided her own brand of American hospitality at the Residence.
