Cliff Berg is President of Governmental Advocates, Inc., one of Sacramento's premiere lobbying firms. Mr. Berg joined Governmental Advocates in February 1995 as a senior lobbyist after spending 22 years working for the California State Legislature, 11 as the Executive Officer of the State Senate. Prior to his appointment as Senate Executive Officer, Mr. Berg served as Chief of Staff to the President Pro Tempore and Senate Majority Leader. Since joining Governmental Advocates, Mr. Berg has established a solid record of legislative accomplishments for a variety of corporate, government, and association clients. An attorney, Mr. Berg has extensive knowledge and expertise in issues relating to the State budget, transportation, local government, and tax law. Mr. Berg is also a recognized legislative expert on technology issues such as the Internet, economic development, privacy and tort reform. As Executive Officer, Mr. Berg built a bi-partisan reputation as an expert legislative strategist and as a policy specialist with an unparalleled knowledge of both the legislature and the administration. As Executive Officer, Mr. Berg coordinated all policy development for the Senate leadership. In 1991, Mr. Berg was selected by the Council of State Governments as a Toll Fellow. He joined legislators, executive branch officials and constitutional officers from all 50 states for an advanced seminar in government problem solving. Additionally, Mr. Berg has been a speaker and panelist on legislative issues at the National Conference of State Legislators and the Pacific Rim Conference. A graduate of McGeorge School of Law and a member of the California State Bar, Mr. Berg received his J.D. in 1979, and a Bachelor of Arts from Occidental College in 1974. In addition to his legislative work, Mr. Berg is a Judge Pro Tempore in the Sacramento Municipal Court; Small Claims Division, and serves on the Alumni Advisory Board of the McGeorge Governmental Affairs Program. Married since 1980, he is the father of three children.
