Greenville civic leader and philanthropist Hayne Hipp, credited with supporting organizations dedicated to promoting opportunity and diversity, died on Thursday August 27 2020. The Greenville native was 80 years old. Hipp was responsible for creating the Greenville Urban League, now called the Urban League of the Upstate, and the Alliance for Quality Education, which is now Public Education Partners Mr. Hipp had been a private investor since The Liberty Corporation's acquisition in January 2006. Prior to its acquisition, Mr. Hipp served as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and a director of the Liberty Corporation, a broadcasting holding company headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina. Liberty Corporation was founded by Hipp's grandfather, W. Frank Hipp. Hayne Hipp served as the CEO of the Liberty Corporation for 27 years. Hipp and his wife of 57 years, Anna Kate Hipp, co-founded the Liberty Fellowship, a network of values-based leaders committed to the betterment of life for all residents of South Carolina.
