Ms. Fischman serves as the firm's General Counsel and is a civil litigator with extensive experience in general commercial litigation and arbitration. Ms. Fischman is active as a consultant in the field of ethics and professional responsibility. She has served for many years as a member of the Departmental Disciplinary Committee for the First Department, and is now Special Counsel. In addition, she taught ethics and professional responsibility as an adjunct professor at Columbia Law School. For many years she was a member of the Professional and Judicial Ethics Committee and the Ethics 2000 Committee of The New York City Bar Association and was a Commissioner of the New York State Ethics Commission of the Unified Court System. As a litigator, her practice is equally divided between the state and federal courts of New York. She has handled cases concerning real estate, banking, bankruptcies and other kinds of commercial litigation. She has also acted as counsel in commercial arbitrations and now acts as an arbitrator on the AAA's commercial panel. Ms. Fischman’s many community activities include service on the Board of The New York Community Trust and The September 11th Fund; former member of the Board of Trustees of Brandeis University; former member of the Board of Directors of The Legal Aid Society; and former director of the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund. She has also sat on many committees of The New York City Bar Association, including the Executive Committee. Ms. Fischman remains closely affiliated with Columbia Law School, sitting on the Board of Visitors and active in alumni activities. Additionally, she is President Emeritus of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - New York City Metro Chapter, and is an active advocate in the mental health community.
