Martin J. McLaughlin began his career as a reporter for the Daily News, covering everything from the riots at Columbia University in the late 60’s to city welfare scandals in the 1970’s to sports, labor and politics. He won a number of journalism awards and accolades including the prestigious George Polk Award. He was also a professor of journalism at NYU. Mr. McLaughlin later served as a Press Secretary to Mayor Edward I. Koch’s gubernatorial campaign. Mr. McLaughlin was Communications Director for the Manhattan Borough President’s Office before working on the federal level as Communications Director and intergovernmental liaison for the House Merchant Marine Fisheries Committee where he helped shape the landmark Panama Canal Treaty legislation. Martin McLaughlin founded his own consulting firm in the mid 1980s and began representing clients like New York Telephone (now Verizon) and HJ Kalikow, both of whom remain clients to this day. Over the years, Mr. McLaughlin was hired by real estate developers like Harry Macklowe, Tishman-Speyer, Donald Trump and Vornado, major corporations and large and influential trade associations. Mr. McLaughlin is also a Board Member of the Museum of the City of New York. Mr. McLaughlin was raised in Upper Manhattan and is a graduate of Holy Cross College in Massachusetts. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
