Richard Allen Cantor died on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the age of 88. Richard was born in Dorchester, MA on January 31, 1933, grew up during the depression, served his country in the Air Force, and received his B.A. and M.B.A. from Boston University and New York University, respectively. The full footprint of Richard's life is found in the lives he touched by his careful listening, his genuine interest in supporting another person's dreams, his expansive vision for what is just and fair, and the actions he took based on these values. The purpose that defined his life was his family, including his four children (Mitchell Cantor, Julie Cantor Peskoe, Daniel Cantor, and Gail Cantor Hoffman); his stepson (Daniel Felder); their spouses; 16 grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. Richard is survived by his second wife, Dr. Pamela Ackerman Cantor, the founder and former President/CEO of Turnaround for Children. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Phyllis Fine Cantor, Ph.D., former Headmaster at Greenwich High School. His accomplishments were many, including serving as the Vice Chairman and former managing partner of Neuberger Berman. Richard was a Trustee of the Juilliard School, an Executive Committee member of Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, and the Board Chair of the Educational Alliance in New York. In 2014, he founded the Manny Cantor Center at the Educational Alliance in memory of his father. In 2001, Richard established the Phyllis Cantor Center for Nursing Excellence at Dana-Farber.
