In 2004 he advised on a film production financing structure for Marvel Entertainment, to which International Financial Law Review awarded “Securitization Deal of the Year” in March, 2006, and was provided an investment-grade rating and insured by Ambac. For Exception Wild Bunch, Kavanaugh wrote the company’s business plan, advised on its financial structures and on the raising of both its production and operating capital. Kavanaugh was also involved in a $528 million film financing transaction with Warner Bros. in 2005. Since then, he has been involved in the formation of the Gun Hill Road I and Gun Hill Road II transactions with Sony and Universal and the Beverly Blvd transaction with Sony. Kavanaugh also developed the Relativity Single Picture Business (“RSPB”), which provides finance and production for A-list talent in the independent film marketplace. RSPB has provided over $400 million of financing to independent features including Mr. Brooks starring Kevin Costner, William Hurt and Demi Moore; 3:10 to Yuma starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale for director James Mangold; The Bank Job starring Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows, directed by Roger Donaldson; The Forbidden Kingdom, starring Jet Li and Jackie Chan for director Rob Minkoff; and Brothers starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman, directed by Jim Sheridan. In 2002, Kavanaugh formed Relativity Management, representing clients such as Steven Soderbergh, George Clooney’s Section 8 Productions, Keanu Reeves’ Company Films, and Robert Evans. Kavanaugh studied at the University of California Santa Barbara, transferring in 1997 for further study to UCLA.
