John E. Schlifske is chairman and chief executive officer of Northwestern Mutual. He is also a member of the company’s Board of Trustees. Schlifske joined Northwestern Mutual in 1987 as an investment specialist. He later headed various aspects of its investment function and also led Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, the company’s retail broker-dealer. Schlifske is a director on the corporate boards of Kohl’s Corporation and Russell Investment Company. In the Greater Milwaukee community, Schlifske is co-chair of Milwaukee Succeeds and serves on the boards of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Froedtert and Community Health, and the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. He is also a member of the Greater Milwaukee Committee. A Milwaukee-area native, Schlifske received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Carleton College and a master’s degree in finance and accounting from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is married to Kim, and they have six children.
