Nancy McFadden, chief of staff for California Governor Jerry Brown and a driving force behind his agenda, died Thursday March 22 2018 in her home after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was 59.
Ms. McFadden was hired as Brown’s chief of staff in 2011, when he returned to the governor’s office, and quickly became an indispensable asset as he pushed ambitious polities on climate, criminal justice reform, and more.
Before her work in Brown’s second administration, she had been a key adviser to Gov. Gray Davis. Before that, she was deputy chief of staff to Vice President Al Gore. Before that, she advised the Clinton White House and was a go-to name in the Clinton Department of Justice.
