He was named president of Brigham Young University--Idaho in 2005. His research is focused on modularity in design and the integration of technology and competition in industry evolution, with a particular focus on the computer industry. He and Carliss Baldwin are co-authors of Design Rules: The Power of Modularity (MIT Press, 2000). Dr. Clark, who is 58, was first elected a director of Black & Decker in 2003. He also serves as a director of JetBlue Airways Corporation and Beneficial Financial Group.
