Parker S. Kennedy is chairman and chief executive officer of The First American Corporation and chairman of its principal subsidiary, First American Title Insurance Company. He was appointed to his current position in December 2003 after serving as president of the parent corporation for nearly 12 years. His past experience also includes serving as president of the title company from 1989 until he turned the presidency over to Gary L. Kermott in January 1999. Kennedy was named to the board of directors of First American Title Insurance Company in 1981. In 1983, Kennedy was named executive vice president of First American Title and was elected to the same position with The First American Corporation in 1986. In 1987, he was elected to the board of The First American Corporation. Since joining First American in 1977, he has also been vice president-national sales director on corporate staff and manager of the firm's Ventura County office in Oxnard, Calif. Earlier he was senior vice president of the firm's Los Angeles subsidiary, First American Title Company of Los Angeles. Kennedy serves on the boards of several First American subsidiaries and affiliates. He also serves on the boards of directors of various charitable organizations, including the Fletcher Jones Foundation. He is a current board member of the Orange County Council of the Boy Scouts of America and is a past chairman of the board of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce and of Bowers Museum. Kennedy is also a past president of the American Land Title Association. A member of the California Bar Association, Kennedy practiced law for four years with Levinson & Lieberman, Beverly Hills, Calif. He graduated from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1970 with an A.B. degree in economics, and received his law degree from Hastings College of the Law, San Francisco, in 1973. Kennedy was born in Orange, Calif., where he now resides. He is the son of D.P. Kennedy, chairman emeritus of The First American Corporation, and the great-grandson of the company's founder, C.E. Parker.
