Lisa J. Caldwell is executive vice president of human resources for Reynolds American Inc. (RAI) and its largest subsidiary, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (R.J. Reynolds). In addition to R.J. Reynolds, RAI’s operating companies include Conwood Company, LLC; Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, Inc.; and R.J. Reynolds Global Products, Inc. Caldwell joined R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1991 as manager of employment practices. Between 1993 and 1995, she served as a personnel manager for the company’s manufacturing division and later for its engineering department. She was promoted to director of human resources in 1996, and managed various human-resources programs including strategic planning prior to becoming vice president of human resources in January 2002. Caldwell became senior vice president of human resources for RAI and R.J. Reynolds in 2006, and assumed her current position in June 2008. A native of Burlington, N.C., Caldwell earned a juris doctor degree in 1986 from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she was a Wake Forest Law Scholar. She was also a Morehead Scholar and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983.
